As the summer days wind down, the excitement of a new school year begins to build. We want to ensure that your family is well-prepared for a successful and smooth start at Corpus Christi Catholic School. Here are our top tips to help you get ready:
1. Check Your Bus Schedule The public school district transportation department where you live handles your bus schedule, and each has its own method of communication. Routes and times can change from year to year, so it’s important to confirm the details before the start of school. Contact them directly for any clarification needed:
2. Purchase School Supplies from the Stationery List Each grade at Corpus Christi has a specific list of required school supplies. To avoid any last-minute scrambles, take some time now to purchase everything your child needs. Be sure to put your child's name on everything. Send in as many items as possible with your child on their first day of school or over a few days if necessary. PreK & Kindergarten families may drop off supplies at their Orientation.
We also recommend parents with children in grades 1-8 purchase at least two rolls of clear contact paper in preparation for covering your children's workbooks and any folders that could use reinforcing to last the school year. This Contact Paper Video Tutorial is a useful reminder of how to easily cover books without those annoying bubbles!
3. Ensure Required Summer Reading Projects Are Complete Each grade has been assigned summer reading and corresponding projects to be completed before the first day of school. Now is the time for students to complete their reading and have their projects ready to be submitted or brought in on the first day of school.
4. Obtain Your Parent Volunteer Clearances We value our volunteers and encourage all parents to get involved in school activities. However, don’t forget that volunteer clearances are required to participate. This includes classroom parties, fundraisers, field trips, and plenty of fun events with your child during the year. If you haven’t already, please ensure you have the necessary documentation completed. This process can take time, so it’s best to start early.
5. Get Your Summer Uniforms Ready Make sure your child is set with all the necessary items for the regular & gym summer uniform. Double-check the uniform guidelines to ensure you have everything needed, including shoes, socks, and any specific accessories.
6. Pick Up Your August Envelope The August Envelope packet contains important information and paperwork that needs to be filled out before the start of school. Some forms will be due on the first day of school, so it's crucial to thoroughly review the August Envelope before school begins. Packets will be available in the church narthex the last two weekends before school starts, and they will also be available in the school office during the week. Make sure to pick yours up so you’re fully informed and ready for the first day.
7. Consider the Home & School Jump Start Program The Jump Start program is new this year and provides you with the convenient option to pay for many Home & School events at the beginning of the school year instead of one by one. This is a great way to plan ahead and ensure you don’t miss any of the exciting events we have planned.
8. Get Acquainted with the School Calendar The school calendar is now live on our new website and will be updated regularly. Be sure to check back often for the latest events and important updates throughout the year.
